Kia Ora, Kia Orana, Talofalava, Talohani, Fakalofa,
Malo Elelei, Lahi Atu, Ni Sa Bula Vinaka, Welcome

The Hastings Health Centre is committed to addressing needs of Maori and Pacific people by acknowledging the disparity between the health of these people and the rest of the population.

Here, you will find support with health advocacy, information and access to treatments.

Five thousand Maori and Pacific people are enrolled at the Hastings Health Centre, making it the largest provider of primary health care to Maori in Hawke’s Bay.  The service is funded by the Hawke’s Bay Primary Health Organisation’s Service to Improve Access (SIA).  This commenced in October 2004.

These services are facilitated via a maori health coordinator who is a registered nurse.

What is the coordinator’s role?

Our coordinator, Potace Bennett (nee Randell) has strong local background and connections, which are so essential in dealing with the haukainga. Holistic health is often talked about but seldom practised. The many facets of Potace’s role recognise the holistic elements impacting on peoples’ health.  She connects with health and social agencies to bring about health improvements for individuals and families/whanau. Potace has an extensive basket of knowledge, skills and contacts she is able to utilise.

Qualifications
Potace is a registered nurse with a Bachelor in Nursing.  She has 40 years nursing experience both in New Zealand and Australia, particularly in coronary care and clinical cardiac nursing. Potace is completing postgraduate studies at EIT.
