Arthritis Clinic
Arthritis New Zealand runs a free monthly clinic in GP 4 .
This service provides information, education and self management advice to people with arthritis. It aims to improve quality to life and minimise the affects of arthritis.
Who is the arthritis educator?
Janice Klinkhamer has worked for Arthritis NZ for ten years. She has a
background in care of the elderly and has worked widely with community
groups.
What happens at the clinic?
Firstly, a full patient assessment is conducted and from this:
- A Care Management Plan is developed
• Possible lifestyle changes are discussed and agreed upon
• This may include further discussion of specific problems with the patient’s General Practitioner /pharmacist
- Aids are suggested to improve daily living and increase mobility
- An exercise programme may be developed
- You may be referred for specialist support via the Fibromyalgia
Support group, water therapy or land based exercise classes, community
occupational therapist/physio/dietician/social worker, Sport Hawke’s
Bay Falls Prevention programme, Age Concern for social interaction etc
Follow-up
Janice rings patients two months later to check progress and supply any further information.
