Providing free exercise, prescription advice and support to help you become more active, improve your health and well-being.
How can a Green Prescription help me?
It's a smart and
cost-effective way to help people stay healthy. Research published in
the British Medical Journal found that a Green Prescription can improve
a patient's quality of life over 12 months, with no evidence of adverse
effects.
Other benefits
In Hawke’s Bay, Green Prescription clients
receive information and access to local walking and cycling groups, $1
aqua and gym classes, healthy lifestyle education sessions and
personalised activity plans with goals.
How can I get a Green Prescription?
Green
Prescriptions are available at Hastings Health Centre, thanks to
partnership and funding from Sport and Recreation New Zealand and
Pharmac.
It’s easy to get one…
- Visit your general
practitioner (GP) or practice nurse to obtain your Green Prescription –
provided your medical condition is stable and you are not currently
active for more than 2.5 hours per week
- Your script is written
up and faxed through to Sport Hawke’s Bay who assigns you a personal
Green Prescription support trainer
- Your support trainer will
contact you to arrange an initial consultation at the FREE clinic,
Hastings Health Centre – Tuesdays 11am – 1pm
- Your progress to
an active lifestyle is reported back to your general practitioner (GP)
or practice nurse by Sport Hawke’s Bay and is added to your patient
file at Hastings Health Centre
- If after 3-4 months, if you
think you would benefit from ongoing support, you can ask your general
practitioner (GP) or practice nurse for another Green Prescription
